Merit-Based Scholarships at AUSOMA
At the American University School of Medicine Aruba (AUSOMA), we are proud to recognize academic excellence by awarding a range of merit-based scholarships. These scholarships are applied as tuition fee reductions and are designed to support high-achieving students throughout their medical education.
Scholarships Recognizing Academic Excellence
Dean’s Academic Scholarship
- Award: 20% tuition reduction
- Eligibility: External GPA of 3.6 or higher, or at the discretion of the Dean
AUSOMA Academic Scholarship
- Award: 20% tuition reduction
- Eligibility: Internal GPA of 3.6 or higher
- Applicable To: Students enrolled in the Premedical Program or MD Semesters 1–4
Aruban Student Scholarship
The Aruban Student Scholarship reflects AUSOMA’s commitment to supporting the development of the local Aruban community. This scholarship is designed to increase access to medical education for qualified Aruban students while maintaining the academic rigor and standards of the MD program.
Award Value
An institutional tuition award with an estimated total value in excess of $20,000, applied as a tuition credit across the Premedical Program and MD Basic Sciences Program.
Eligibility
- Available to qualified Aruban students
- Applicable to the Premedical Program and semesters MD1 to MD5

- Scholarships awards are contingent upon enrollment status, academic progress, and insitutional policies
Scholarship values are estimates provided for informational purposes only. Final award amounts are specified in individual offer letters and may vary based on tuition in effect at the time of enrollment.
MCAT scholarship
(these criteria are only for initiating the scholarship)
• 50% tuition scholarship through basic science courses
• MCAT Score 500 and above
• GPA 3.7+
• If the GPA drops below this level, the scholarship cannot be reinstated.
GRE Scholarship
50% Tuition Scholarship (Basic Sciences Only)
- Undergraduate GPA: 3.3 or higher
- GRE Scores:
- Overall Score: 320+
- Quantitative: 160+
- Verbal: 155+
- Analytical Writing: 4.5+

Student Referral Program
Current AUSOMA students and transfer applicants listed as a referral will receive a $1,000 tuition credit for each referral. The referred student must pay the registration fee and be enrolled for one semester for the credit to be applied, which will go toward the following semester’s tuition. Students on an active Leave of Absence and paying the monthly fee are also eligible for the credit.
Maintaining Your Scholarship
To continue receiving a scholarship throughout your studies at AUSOMA, students must meet the following academic and conduct requirements:
1. Academic Performance
● Maintain a minimum internal GPA of 3.6 each semester (unless otherwise specified by the scholarship).
● Scholarships may be revoked or adjusted if GPA requirements are not met.
2. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
● Students must remain in good academic standing and meet the university’s
Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
3. Professional Conduct
● Maintain professional behavior in accordance with AUSOMA’s Code of Conduct.
● Any violations, including academic dishonesty or behavioral issues, may result in loss of scholarship.
4. Full-Time Enrollment
● Students must be enrolled full-time each semester to remain eligible.
Note: Scholarships are reviewed each term. If a student fails to meet the maintenance criteria, the scholarship may be suspended or terminated. In some cases, students may requalify by meeting requirements in a future semester.
How to Get a Scholarship at AUSOMA
All applicants who meet the criteria for admission to AUSOMA will be considered for all available medical school scholarships available by selection. Applicants will be considered based on documentation provided as part of their medical school application.

Prospective students must start and submit an admission application in order to be considered for any scholarships.
3. Receive Admissions Decision
Accepted students are considered for all scholarships available by selection. If eligible, the admissions committee will inform students of scholarship award upon acceptance.*
